Mexico: Then & Now

Music and Movies in District del Sol is a unique, family-friendly attraction on St. Paul’s West Side in Parque Castillo. The free series is held on Thursday nights beginning in mid-June and ending in early August. Experience Mexico as each week different decades throughout the country's history are explored through art, music and movies. This event is community-oriented and fun! Come see us this summer!

The activities start at 6:30 pm, the music begins at 7:30 pm, and a film will be shown at dusk.

June 25	Now	Food Art	Tres Mundos Salsa & Samba	Tortilla Soup PG13 A Mexican-American chef shares a home with his three single daughters. Each of them is searching for fulfillment and they discover the recipe for happiness may call for some unexpected ingredients.
July 2	Then	Wind Socks	Los Soles Mariachi	Bugambilia NR In 19th century Guanajuato, Mexico, the young and beautiful Amalia finally finds love and tries to overcome class barriers.
July 9	Now	Weaving	*Sonora Café* Cumbia	Real Women Have Curves PG13 Ana is a first generation Mexican-American teenager. Upon receiving a college scholarship she is torn between her mainstream ambitions and staying home w/ her family.
July 16	Then	Coffee Filter Flowers	Danza Mexica Cuautehmoc & Los Alegres Bailadores Prehispanic and folkloric Mexican dance groups	A Toda Máquina NR Agent Luis, upon housing the vagabond, Pedro, becomes good friends with him and together they share mischief, women, songs and a friendship that can last though everything.
July 23	Now	Skeleton Masks	Niños de Guadalupe Youth chorus	La Leyenda de la Nahuala PG (Animated) According to legend, an old house has been possessed by the spirit of an evil witch known as la Nahuala. A little boy ventures into the house to save his brother.
July 30	Then	Balero Toymaking	Ecuador Manta Andean folk	La Perla NR A man finds a giant pearl at the bottom of the sea and his family's life is changed as they decide what to do.
August 6	Now	Puppet Making	Maria Isa, Angel Darcourt & Ele-Jay Hip-hop	Zurdo NR Young marbles player Zurdo has never been beaten. He's challenged by a mysterious player and the story turns into a futuristic sci-fi fantasy.

Any films originally in Spanish will be shown with English subtitles and vice versa.
