Clean, Green, and Thriving Streets!
REDA’s streetscape program seeks to engage business owners, residents, and stakeholders in the improvement of public spaces in District del Sol. Some of the initiatives of the streetscape program include:
Anti-litter Campaign
REDA has partnered with Kaposia, Inc. to pick up litter throughout the District Del Sol Commerical Corridor every week! New in 2010 will be the replacement of existing garbage cans throughout District del Sol with unique cans depicting images defined by West Side community members.
Clean Up Day
Each April West Side community members pitch in to beautify public spaces throughout the neighborhood. Activities include litter pick-up, spring garden prep, painting projects, and other service projects in the West Side community. Last year, clean up efforts led to removal of over 100 bags of litter, 40 bags of brush from community gardens, and painting of a public plaza, park benches, and picnic tables! Contact streetscape@districtdelsol.com for more information and to get involved!

Blooming District del Sol
Since 2005 REDA has funded hanging baskets throughout District del Sol, as well as public gardens close to the three gateways of District del Sol. In partnership with Youth Farm and the Minnesota Horticultural Society’s Minnesota Green Program, neighborhood youth have learned about planting and maintaining each of the public gardens.
District del Sol Community Gardeners contact streetscape@districtdelsol.com if you have interest in greening District del Sol! Through the Minnesota Green program of the Minnesota State Horticulture Society, REDA plants over 1,000 flowers in three community gardens in the neighborhood. In addition, over 50 hanging flower baskets decorate the light posts of Cesar Chavez through REDA's efforts.
Public Art
REDA has led efforts in partnership with other West Side community groups to celebrate the West Side neighborhood through public art installation since the 1980’s. Recent successes include the installation of a wooden sculpture commemorating Cesar Chavez, creation of the Wabasha Retaining Wall, and a mural celebrating the Canto al Pueblo movement. Currently the program is exploring resources to salvage and reinvigorate existing public art installations throughout the West Side neighborhood's commercial corridors. We will be re-doing the 176 mural and need artists! If you are interesed, please contact someone at REDA today!
